Tennessee State Parks says a sold-out Hunter Moon night hike is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, at Window Cliffs State Natural Area, starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending around 8:30 p.m., according to the event announcement.
The announcement says the hike covers 5.7 miles and includes 18 creek crossings and significant elevation change. Participants’ feet will get wet, and the timed hike will not allow enough time to change shoes at each crossing, the park said.
Tennessee State Parks says participants should wear toe-covered shoes and clothing suited to the weather, and bring at least 64 ounces of water and snacks or dinner. The announcement says the group will watch the Hunter’s Moon from the top of Window Cliffs.
The park says it will provide headlamps, though participants may bring their own, and the return from Window Cliffs will take place in darkness. Because the event is after hours, the entrance gate may be closed for early arrivals; a ranger should be at the entrance no later than 15 minutes before the start to let participants into the parking lot, according to the announcement.
