Furman University Athletics said the Paladins were set to play Tennessee Tech in Cookeville at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Tucker Stadium. The announcement described Tennessee Tech as the Southern Conference’s newest member and the 15th-ranked team in the FCS.

According to Furman Athletics, Tennessee Tech entered the game 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Furman was 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Furman had lost its previous three games, including a 32-25 home loss to Wofford, the announcement said.

Furman Athletics reported that the Paladins gained 387 total yards against Wofford, including 264 passing yards, but scored 18 points. The announcement said Furman was averaging 16.6 points per game through six games.

Tennessee Tech led the SoCon in passing, averaging 289.6 yards per game with 15 touchdown passes, according to the announcement. Quarterback Jax Leatherwood had thrown for 1,448 yards and 15 touchdowns, and receiver Gabe Nunez had 29 catches for 476 yards and three touchdowns, Furman Athletics reported.
